starting a blog
Well, my lovely wife, Emily, was talking today about starting a blog - something that I also have been considering for quite some time now. Naturally, as a thinker, I have thought many times that a blog would be a great way of cataloging my thoughts and sharing them with others.
However, there are typically three problems that I run into that hinder me from actually starting a blog.
The first, of course, is the problem of “lack of readers.” Really now, there are a lot of blogs out there, and it might be a little much to assume that people are actually going to be interested in what I have to say, considering their other options.
This leads right into my next problem, which is the narcissistic nature of blogs. I mean, Facebook is bad enough - everyone telling your their every thought & opinion and hoping for as many comments as possible in an effort to justify their existence as a person. I would just hope that no one would read my posts and think I’m full of myself (which might be true in many cases, but is not exactly a life goal of mine).
But the final problem is the big one. Right now, I’m looking back at what I’ve written, and I feel like a total dork. I can just imagine many of my friends (who are much cooler than me, of course) reading what I’ve just written and looking down and saying: “Oh Tim, you think you’re so cool, don’t you? In time you’ll learn, my child. And someday - just maybe - if you work real hard, you can be cool, too.”
And so, with all that against me, I press on. I have decided to cast aside my doubts, to disregard the naysayers, to follow my heart, to listen to my inner child, to think positive thoughts, and to just do it - blog.
Enjoy.
